Community engagement means working to improve community life through various volunteering opportunities. These opportunities exist within our communities, across the commonwealth, nationwide, and even worldwide.
Are you volunteering?
Do you serve on community boards?
Are you a Baseball Coach or Scout Leader?
Are you involved as a Red Cross Shelter Volunteer?
Skills-based volunteering (SBV) is a fantastic way to fill an employment gap, enhance your work history, network, and advance your career.
Discover your passion through service. Each community has its own identity and values. Engage with your elected officials, register to vote, and know what you need to do if selected for jury duty.
Serving on community boards or commissions is an excellent way to engage in skills-based volunteering and make a positive difference in local and state government.
Organizations such as the American Red Cross actively recruit volunteers from diverse fields for both short-term and long-term assignments, offering a variety of volunteering opportunities. Numerous non-profit organizations also advertise these opportunities on platforms like VolunteerMatch.org, making it easier for individuals to find roles that match their skills through skills-based volunteering. Before getting involved, do your homework by researching your non-profit and reviewing the filed reports with the MA AGO Non-Profit Organizations/Public Charities Division.
Explore the statewide office elections schedule, begin your research, review statistics, and learn how to get on the ballot. Additionally, discover volunteering opportunities related to community boards and skills-based volunteering, and learn more about the Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance.
The Corporation for National and Community Service offers a range of volunteering opportunities for Americans of all ages and backgrounds to serve their communities and country, primarily through its Senior Corps and AmeriCorps programs. Participants in the Corporation's programs engage in skills-based volunteering, contributing approximately 228 million service hours to community boards and local initiatives each year.
America’s Natural and Cultural Resources Volunteer Portal is built and maintained by the Federal Interagency Team on Volunteerism (FITV), which includes volunteer program coordinators from three Cabinet-level departments. This portal serves as a hub for community boards to discover various skills-based volunteering opportunities that enhance our natural and cultural resources.
Campaign success hinges on effectively engaging the community about why a vote can make a significant difference. It's the volunteers who drive this effort, and there are numerous volunteering opportunities available to help, such as displaying a campaign sign in your yard or window, participating in sign holding, making phone calls, and supporting social media campaigns. Additionally, consider contributing your skills through skills-based volunteering or sharing information on community boards to further amplify our message.
